Dragons have always and forever will be my favorite. Since I was a little one, I have been running after vthese grandious beasts both literally and figuratively and it has all culminated in the pursuit of writing and illustrating my own comic. It is currently in the early phases of character creation and story development with the prologue in the first drafts.

"Chasing Dragons" follows the story of Ez, a researcher who leaves everything behind on a whim as a means to chase after their lost childhood and the deep, unexplainable grief they've carried for years. Seeking the faint memories of a dragon that defined their life's purpose at a very young age, Ez finds themself wandering through a strange and whimsical world alongside a collection of unusual creatures.

The overall vibe that I'm going for with this comic is that of a storybook that has grown up with the reader. Since the main character needs to reflect this, I based Ez's design around soft, bright colors and gentle shapes to create someone who looks like a child dreamt them up. Ez's fashion sense is based loosely off of my own, aiming more for cozy and functional rather than mainstream style. Their color palette and design is going to be subject to change as I develop and experiment with the prologue and first chapter.

The same person, Ez, is standing up in 4 different angles. From right to left, the first is facing forward, the next is facing the back, then they are shown facing right, then finally the left. Ez Is wearing a pale yellow sweatshirt with turquoise elements on the hood and sleeves. Underneath the sweatshirt is a dark purple long sleeve shirt that hooks over their thumbs like fingerless gloves. Their pants are a denim blue with the same turquoise fabric used to roughly stitch on a dragon design that wraps around their left thigh as well as some pockets and the bottom of the pant legs. Their shoes look like bowling shoes with oramge and pink accents. Ez's hair is short with a small side pony tail on the lower right side. It has been dyed a sky blue and their brown roots show through in some spots. They are wearing pink tinted glasses that look like an infinity symbol.

This reference sheet shows seven different facial expressions from Ez from the shoulder down. Only the one on the far right of the page shows down to their mid thigh. The top left shows them looking quite delighted and to the left, Ez is rolling their eyes, looking irritated. On the bottom left, they look like they are cringing at something and next to it, they have an expression that makes it look like they smelled something weird. On the far right side of the page, Ez is blushing and holding their hands up to their chest timidly. To the upper left of that shows Ez sobbing desperately about something and right below that, Ez is leaning over with their face pressed against the edge of a table, looking disassociated.

This design includes a light blue whale-like creature that has a colorful green ecosystem stretching across the length of its back. Strings of moss adn plants growth trail off of its slippers and there are barnacle-like growths along the underside of its mouth and belly. Where its blowhole would be is an active volcano with smoke/steam like clouds coming out at the top. A small sketch is included, showing the skwhale swallowing clouds for sustenence. At the bottom of the page, it shows how Ez and their companion will be flown in onto the skwhale via a giant bird.

Turkey is a massive bird with a skyblue belly and underwings. The rest of it is a warm brown with orange and yellow gradiated feathers. Its beak is an unnatural bright greem and its eyes are a deep magenta. Three long antenna-like bits of plummage adorn its head like a crown. To show scale, I put Ez, who is 5 foot 8 inches, beside Turkey and they are barely taller than its foot, making this bird over 50 feet tall with an over 100 foot wingspan.

Borus looks like a pillbug three pairs of bigger legs that make him capable of walking while rolled up. Borus is a light bluish color with some green. He has chunky dark blue antenna and big eyes. with little bumps on the segments going down his body.

Orob's design is very similar to Borus's. The little ridges on the outer shell have become spikes and the antenna, legs and face have grown to become more compact and durable. On eof teh reference images shows what they look like unrolled which makes them look much more like a worm rather than a pillbug. Another image shows what an adult looks like as it charges in its rolled up state.

This creature is a dark brown color with a bright orange underbelly area that goes down its long legs. They have small, clawless feet that are meant for running rather than fighting so they mainly use their sharp teeth to tear apart prey. They have no eyes, instead using sensory organs that look like a hare's ears with eyes inside.

This image shows an inky black serpent-like creature with feline features. Its eyes are black with jarringly yellow irises. It has two legs that look like a cat's front paws and a cat's face, but otherwise looks like a fluffy snake. It is much larger than Ez at about 40 feet long and 15 feet tall from chin to the tips of its ears.

Garlic is a very small, walking, self-sustained flame that blazes a bright turquoise color with orange accents. The size, intensity, and color of its body changes with its emotions.

Freg is a very round frog-like creature with deep black, compound eyes, small, vestigial wings. feathery antenna, and black spots. Its limbs are a bright orange along with the tips of its wings, antenna, and rear end. The rest of it is a very saturated blue. It has a black throat and discolored yellow teeth as well as the ability to let out a piercing shriek as a defense mechanism. Freg fits comfortably in Ez's arms, the perfect size for being carried.

The Follower has eight legs, the back six having hoofs and used for locamotion while the front pair have a set of sickly, pale gray human hands that it uses to manipulate and move the things around it. Its head is a fleshless wolf skull with a sigular antler sprouting from its forehead into what looks like a tree branch. Like an angler fish, a pomegranate dangles from one of the branches. It's draped in a leathery black cloak and its limbs are covered in a thick brown fur. it walks on the very tips of its hooves and is covered in layers of lichen, mold, etc.

The brachiotaur is a greyish green with a dinosaur body. at the end of his very long neck is a humanish torso. Every inch of his body is covered in scales and he has a golden cuff on his tail and a pierced tongue. His neck is very flexible, demonstarted by him ducking under his own body to look behind him.

With the upper body of a humanoid and the lower body of a snake, these serpentine creatures come in a wide range of colors and patterns and even species. They are covered head to tail in scales, included long entended rows of scales that branch off of their skulls which resembles hair in a protective style.

This is a long serpentine dragon with inspritation from eastern and western designs. It has huge wings meant for gliding on thermals. It has a thick layer of belly scales in case of emergency crash landings. It has two front legs for grabbing prey out of the air and steering/balance fins up and down its long body. Its head is stocky but aerodynamic and covered in fur-like scales that go down to the tip of its tail.
